ABOUT THE SONG

“Even Though It Kills Me” is Austin Hull’s self-produced single that dives into the pop spectrum. Austin Hull delivers a record that flirts with spacey and ethereal elements, while solidifying itself with hard hitting percussion and a monstrous bass. It is brought back home with massive vocals that glide over the instrumental. “Even Though It Kills Me” is a soaring pop ballad filled with melancholy, realization, and desperation. It’s a story of a couple who has slowly fallen out of love with each other, but hasn’t drawn the line in the sand. The lyrics tell of someone who realizes that the relationship isn’t working, but has been keeping themselves a prisoner while watching someone they love drift further and further away. The hook is the realization. An array of vocals plead, “I don’t want to wait if what’s done is done baby. I don’t want to stay if he’s on your mind lately. Do you understand, like I understand? I can’t be your man, even though it kills me” acting as a modern retelling of the old adage, “if you love something, let it go.” The story builds through the second verse before the chorus is repeated. A post chorus expands on the desperation of the hook by pleading to be freed from the hold of their lover with “don’t keep me on hold, I don’t want to hear ‘maybe’. Leave me in the cold, now my soul is left aching. Do you understand, like I understand, I should be your man, even if it kills me.” Honest lyrics told with a catchy melody, accompanied by slick production make “Even Though It Kills Me” a wonderful pop ballad that will resonate with so many people that have watched the love of their life slip through their fingers.

Austin produced, wrote, performed, mixed, and mastered “Even Though It Kills Me” and released it as his tenth studio single. Austin has been making his rounds releasing a steady stream of alternative R&B singles, but he decided to shake things up a bit in 2020. He wanted to experiment more with pop music so when he was making “Even Though It Kills Me” he blended the atmosphere of R&B and hip-hop that he loved, with the melody and consistency of pop music that he admired. This record finds itself in the middle of pop, R&B, and alternative music with dark undertones, bright production and precise melody. Austin has plans to release an EP in Spring that will continue his journey into the alternative pop atmosphere without abandoning his R&B roots.

BIOGRAPHY

LYRICS

I knew this was coming
It wasn’t a surprise
Cause you were never happy
When I was in your eyes
I know we’ve been sleeping
In a bed that’s full of lies
Every night

I thought I had given you enough
I thought what we had was really love
Leave it up to me to fuck it up
Everytime but
I know I just need to let you go
Suffocating never made us close
But I just really needed you to know

I don’t wanna wait if what’s done is done baby
I don’t wanna stay if he’s on your mind lately
Would you understand
Like I understand
I can’t be your man

Even though it kills me

I don’t wanna wait if what’s done is done baby
I don’t wanna stay if he’s on your mind lately
Would you understand
Like I understand
That I can’t be your man

I’ve been feeling empty
I know you feel the same
I don’t know the last time
I heard you say my name
Thought that we could piece this
Back together, what a shame
Well I tried too many times

Broken pictures frames are all I have
Memories of you are flooding back
I hope he can give you what I lack
I’ll be fine but
I can’t really seem to let you go
Got my grip on picture perfect hopes
It’s not getting easier to cope

I don’t wanna wait if what’s done is done baby
I don’t wanna stay if he’s on your mind lately
Would you understand
Like I understand
I can’t be your man

Even though it kills me

I don’t wanna wait if what’s done is done baby
I don’t wanna stay if he’s on your mind lately
Would you understand
Like I understand
That I can’t be your man
Even though it kills me

Don’t keep me on hold
I don’t wanna hear maybe
Leave me in the cold
Now my soul is left aching
Do you understand
Like I understand
I should be your man
Even if it kills me

Even if it kills me
Even if it kills me
Even if it kills me

I don’t wanna wait if what’s done is done baby
I don’t wanna stay if he’s on your mind lately
Would you understand
Like I understand
That I can’t be your man
Even though it kills me
